@heartny My next door neighbors are Alpaca. Albert and Alecia Paca. They are wonderful and BFF’s. I do notice though, as of late, they have been hanging out underneath their Pergola next to the pool a lot. Also they both got sheared recently. The temps are hovering around 100 here so I totally get it.
@pmarin summer isn’t bad in CA depending on where.
Humboldt, San Francisco area, San Diego, Burney, siskiyou are all not bad.
Redding, Sacramento, Modesto, Fresno, basically the whole valley are pretty much satan’s butt hole.
@kittykat9180@pmarin
I lived in Monterey for 2 years. It was rarely hot, but when it was even near hot, the construction (all of it old, in the US sense) couldn’t deal and you baked. And when it was hot, the sea breeze shut down. So it was still and hot. So miserable.
@Cerridwyn@pmarin@accelerator
I grew up in Redding and I don’t know how. There are days it hits 118°. It gets hotter there than the where I live now in the high desert. Now you gotta add in the smoke from fires all summer.
My parents still live there and I wish they didn’t. My dad has been talking about moving for the last 25 years, but I know that they will die there.
@accelerator@kittykat9180@pmarin yeah and the high desert, if it’s the high desert I’m thinking of can’t be pretty miserable. It was always a few more degrees hotter up there than down the hill where I live. But then of course we could go Inland to the low desert and it’ll be hotter yet
@accelerator@Cerridwyn@kittykat9180@pmarin My birth mom lived in Fresno. The first time we were able to meet was late summer. It actually wasn’t too bad… Maryland summers can be a son of a bitch, so maybe I just didn’t notice. She owned a driving range and I got to drive the ball picker. I talked shit to all the golfers and everyone was trying to hit me A bucket list check I didn’t even know I needed.
@pmarin When you say “Maybe even frequent rain,” did you mean to get away from that or go to where you’ll have that? I ask because I thought PNW is the home of frequent rain.
@ItalianScallion Yes I wanted that. Clears the air. Beautiful skies. Temps usually comfy 50s-60s is what I’d wish for. Maybe clouds or maybe “sunbreaks,” which I didn’t know was a thing.
But it’s not like that anymore, on average.
Here in Midwest we have ever changing weather. It’s really minute to minute some days. Yesterday was cool and super damp 72* 85%humidity! Today 85* 60% humidity! Starting Saturday it’s the 90s for few days! The temperature can rise upward 20 degrees in an hours time or drop that quickly. It depends on the wind most days. I guess it “ Lake Effect “ weather. Today is a beach hazard warning dangerous currents! So much summer fun.
@jkawaguchi
Sounds about right for Michigan. But I love MI summers. I love the heat and the humidity. Even if I move I’ll always come back to MI for the summer, it’s the lakes that are the real winner. We don’t have blocks, we just have streets bc you literally run into a lake every few miles of driving here in the southeast (and around different parts of the state too).
Mother Nature needs to get back on her meds or maybe get some new medication. We’ve been having way too many “whipsaw” days…Chilly/cloudy/drizzly one day then the next day freaking gorgeous. Then whipsaw again to 40-50mph winds, severe thunderstorms & even tornadoes (which we almost never see) then back to 75 & sunny later on in the day.
I remember, I remember,
Ere my childhood flitted by,
It was cold then in December,
And was warmer in July.
In the winter there were freezings,
In the summer there were thaws;
But the weather isn’t now at all
Like what it used to was!
Currently taking an RV across the southwest from Alabama to San Francisco. Weather has been ever-changing as has been the scenery.
2 days ago 104 in Las Vegas. This morning sitting at a park bench drinking coffee and posting this it’s about 52° and damp at Morro rock on the coast in California with a high slated for 57 today.
As I posted elsewhere we just missed all the excitement around Kerrville Texas by about 36 hours. Overall it’s been a pretty good trip with a few mechanical hiccups that we’re having to deal with but I think it will be a memorable experience for my granddaughter and a cousin from France who are accompanying us.
Back home in Alabama they’ve had several day stretches of rain followed by super hot days. Between the upper 90° temps and the high humidity, summers can be pretty miserable there. That’s why we keep a pool.
@chienfou I like the trip report. Did a lot of RV traveling. Hopefully most of your stuff was reliable and survived the heat and the A/C kept working.
Morro Rock is a good endpoint for a journey. “Gotta go see the rock before you can go back”
France is a place where it gets pretty hot in the South (now maybe everywhere). Most residences didn’t use to have air conditioning. I had a friend I worked with in South of France and he had a nice yard and swimming pool, but I don’t think A/C. It was hard for me to find a hotel with A/C at the time (about 20 years ago — maybe that has changed)
Friendly reminder . . .

I live in the deserts
What do you think?
I mean, I live in coastal SoCal, so…
@haydesigner doesn’t mean it’s not hottish
just drive inland a bit and share the wealth
/giphy profuse sweating

Very weathery.
@yakkoTDI I agree, one minute it is Hot, next it is Cold, the ait another minute it is Major thunderstorm!
@mycya4me @yakkoTDI Same in Southern New England. Reminds me of the tired old saying, “If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute.”
Hot and shitty
On the plus, the tornado warning expired.
On the minus, flash flooding. We’re pretty used to it in this area; generally there are very few fatalities.
On the plus, my phone went off to let me know to avoid low roads and maybe just stay home. Thank you, NWS!
(On the minus, it’s still hot and shitty.)
Hot and dry with fire danger.
I moved to PNW to get away from CA endless Summer heat and smog. Maybe even frequent rain. Well, hah! That didn’t work out well.

I’ll take the dry heat of the desert any day
@kittykat9180 @pmarin I lived in the San Joaquin valley. Hotter than hell!

@chienfou “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.”
(— apparently NOT Mark Twain, although everyone thinks it was)

Yesterday was too hot. Today isn’t as hot, but I struggle to call it pleasant.
